The Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZDA is an active non-profit association. Its monthly general meetings feature quality guest speakers, covering a multitude of dental disciplines, in venues throughout our region.

We encourage all dentists practising in our region to become Branch members. Our meetings provide excellent education and professional networking opportunities.

Becoming a member

The Branch welcomes all dentists who practice in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Regions, to apply to become Branch members. We have Branch Liaison Officers based in Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua, who will be pleased to receive enquiries about joining the Branch.

If you would like to become a member, you are welcome to peruse the Waikato BOP Branch Rules 2023 and print out our Membership Application Form (plus info) Following this, please contact a current Branch member, or the Branch Liaison Officer in your area or email our Branch Administrator at [email protected]

Upcoming meetings

The next Branch General Meeting will be held on Friday 18th October 2024 at The Boatshed, in Cambridge. The Guest Speaker is Freddie Bennett presenting on the topic: Profit under pressure  Click here to view the Notice of Meeting.

The next meeting of the Branch Executive Committee will be on Tuesday 8th October 2024.

The 2024 Branch AGM will be held at Hobbiton in Matamata on Friday 8th November.

The 2025 May Day Course will be held at Hobbiton in Matamata on Friday 9th May 2025. Planning for this event is currently underway.

WBOP Branch Student Scholarship 2024

The purpose of this student scholarship is to support and encourage young dental students during their degree and to connect them with members of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZDA, showcasing the collegiality and benefits the Branch can offer them in future. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE WBOP NZDA STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • This Scholarship is open to any student who is studying a Bachelor of Dental Surgery at University of Otago who originates from the Waikato Bay of Plenty NZDA Branch region outlined in the map below.
  • The scholarship amount is $1000 per year to be applied for by 31st March each year. 
  • Should there be more than one applicant the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate chosen by the WBOP NZDA Branch Executive Committee. The scholarship may be divided.
  • The Branch Executive will decide on the successful applicant at the April Branch Executive Meeting. The successful applicant will be notified soon after this.
  • The scholarship may be applied for alongside any other scholarship as long as the terms do not conflict with the conditions of this scholarship.
  • It will be expected the student will correspond with the WBOP Branch throughout the year and try to attend at least one Branch meeting between February and October.
  • The scholarship will be offered as funds allow.

APPLICATION PROCESS To apply for this scholarship the following is required:

  • A completed application form
  • Copy of applicant’s academic record (NCEA and/or university results)
  • A covering letter (outlining interests, where applicant is from, and any other relevant background information)

HAMILTON: We are looking for an associate dentist to join our busy practice in Hamilton. You will be replacing a dentist who has full books. This is a long-term position. We are a 4-surgery general dental practice established over 30 years ago with a large patient base, equipped with EXACT Dental Software, Digital X-rays, OPG, Rotary Endo, Surgical Motor, Soft-tissue LASER, Cerec Primescan, Primemill and Speed-Fire Furnace. You will be joining a team of 3 Dentists and 2 Oral health therapists. The ideal candidate should be caring and empathetic towards patients with great communication skills, have the ability to work independently, be confident in extractions, complex restorations, endodontics, fixed & removable prosthodontics and have minimum 2 years of experience. TAURANGA: A Full time position is available for an experienced dentist [3-5 years minimum ] for our Tauranga practice. We are looking for someone who can communicate well with people , has good clinical skills and enjoys working in a friendly team environment.  An interest in surgery and implants would be an advantage but not essential. Our practice is situated on the fringe of the CBD and consists of four dentists and one hygienist. A full range of dentistry is carried out here in modern, well equipped surgeries. Totally compliant sterilising room, cerec, panex, rotary endo, digital radiographs , access to RA and IV sedation equipment and software of Excellence.

TAURANGA: Associate Dentist Job Opportunity in Sunny Central Tauranga.
We are seeking an experienced dentist to join our team part time initially and then progressing to full time by Jan 2022. We are a busy, established, independently owned dental practice in central Tauranga with an excellent reputation for high quality dentistry. You would be joining a great team of 3 dentists, a hygienist and support staff providing for a large, loyal patient base. The successful applicant would be taking over full books of lovely loyal patients who have been well looked after by our retiring experienced dentist for the last 36 years.  So, you would be expected to be busy from the get-go!
Experience: Ideally, we are seeking someone with 3+ years of private practice experience. Having orthodontic and surgical skills (or enthusiasm) would be preferred but not essential. Experienced clinicians will be allowed clinical autonomy. Recent graduates will be provided with clinical support by other experienced team members as needed to quickly improve their skills and confidence.
Our practice offers all aspects of general dentistry as well as some more complex treatments in-house, including digitally guided implant placement and restoration, cosmetic direct/indirect veneers, molar rotary endodontics etc. Some of us are also qualified to provide IV sedation and nitrous oxide sedation. We also have a hygienist on board to look after our patients’ periodontal needs.
Equipment: We have all the toys you may require. Our practice is equipped with all Sirona dental chairs (x5) with multiple screens and intraoral cameras attached, Exact Software, Digital Intraoral x-rays, Digital OPG, surgical motors, CEREC scanning and in-house milling unit, etc.
We also have excellent rapport with our range of local specialists (Endodontist, Periodontist, Prosthodontist & OMS) and dental laboratory all within a 200M radius from our clinic.
